The Schwan Food Company is a privately-owned, multi-billion dollar
company employing over 16,000 workers in the entire United States.
Headquartered in Marshall, Minnesota, Schwan manufactures and sells frozen
foods through home delivery, grocery and convenience store freezers, and the
food service trade. The brand creates, markets and dispenses products built up
under brands like Edward’s, Mrs. Smith’s, Pagoda Express, Schwan’s Red Baron,
Tony’s, among many others.
Schwan can trace its historical roots back to
1952 when Marvin Schwan started delivering his family’s home-made ice
cream to the households of rural West Minnesota. The business quickly expanded
to cover Midwestern United States and has then made a good number of
acquisitions including Russell Dairy and Holiday Ice Cream Company. Ten years
later, Schwan’s product line lengthened and included juice concentrates and
frozen fish. In the 1970’s, the company started selling pizza to grocery stores
and schools, and made further acquisitions which marked the company’s massive
success in the food industry. To date, Schwan still delivers superior-quality
frozen foods to their wide base of clientele even after 60 years of doing
business.
