Rabbi Leib Tropper’s Efforts in Instilling Good Character Through Education

A well established Orthodox Jewish educator, Rabbi Leib Tropper leads the Kol Yaakov Torah Center in Monsey, New York. As founder and Rosh Yeshiva of the institution, Rabbi Tropper focuses on guiding students in mastering concepts presented in the Talmud, and understanding the broader tradition of learning it represents. He focuses on instilling an awareness of Judaism that emphasizes moral and ethical concepts, and seeks to provide a mainstreamed environment for baalei teshuva to become B’nei Torah.

In 1990, a decade after establishing the Kol Yaakov Torah Center, Rabbi Leib Tropper expanded his educational efforts to include the Horizons program. In particular, he focused on reaching out to youth unaccustomed to a life based around the Torah.

Rabbi Tropper has engaged in additional educational efforts in recent years that seek to create students of good faith and values. He is highly involved in the Israel-based Character First project, which targets young adults. His primary role involves gathering information and writing materials that encourage engagement on the topic of moral and ethical character. The Character First initiative has received recognition from a number of prominent rabbis, educators, and community leaders such as Binyamen Greenberg and Moshe Hollender, who look forward to positive results as the project advances.

Rabbi Tropper has lectured extensively throughout his career, notably speaking at Oxford University, Stanford University, and Yale University. His most recent travels have taken him to London, Berlin, and Paris, and to Israel. Rabbi Tropper has authored two highly regarded books in recent years on Jewish Responsa traditions.

Hershey Entertainment & Resorts Company: Enriching a Legacy

When people hear “Hershey”, only two things come to mind – the delightful, melt-in-your-mouth, rich chocolate or the gigantic family-theme park located in Pennsylvania.
But Hershey means so much more than that.

When Milton S. Hershey went back to his hometown in 1903, he only had but one vision – to create the world’s first state-of-the-art chocolate factory. However, Hershey was not satisfied with building just one factory, so he took a pretty active role in the community that sprouted around him. He constructed a “true hometown” complete with all kinds of shops, schools and the “Hershey Park” where employees of his chocolate factory can relax and have fun with their families and friends. He even founded a school and an orphanage, bestowing them with his massive fortune. A few years after that, when the United States suffered greatly during the Great Depression, Hershey created several jobs for his town’s citizens by putting together an arena, community center, theater, stadium and the magnificent, European-style, five-star hotel – The Hotel Hershey.

Since the chocolate magnate did not only own a colossal chocolate factory, but many of community’s business and utilities as well, he decided to divide his chocolate manufacturing operation from the rest of his enterprises. All of these non-sweets related divisions were identified under the company name, The Hershey Estates.

Today, the Hershey Estates is already known as the Hershey Entertainment & Resorts Company (HERCO), employing more than 1,650 full-time employees and another 7,400 working part-time.  It has become a first-class hospitality and entertainment corporation operating several amusement parks and resorts, all of which cater to millions of happy guests in a year. Ever since its establishment more than a century ago, HERCO has enhanced the legacy left behind by Milton S. Hershey and at the same time, remained profitable and competitive in the industry in which they operate. Not only that, the company also strives to create long-lasting relationships with the community they work with through a reservoir of expertise and talent that has the capability to make a difference in the world.

Popchips: Making Snacking Feel Good Again

Even for a die-hard snack fanatic, serial entrepreneur Keith Belling knew that there was absolutely nothing to get from those usual bags of fried chips, so he decided to find a way for snacking to become tastier and whole lot healthier.

He started out with a talk with fellow snack fanatic, Patrick Turpin. He told him about his frustrations with the chips currently sold in the market and his dream of creating something that will make snacking fun and healthier again. Patrick shared the same sentiments and in turn, told him about a snack manufacturer that might just help make his friend’s dream come true. It only took one visit and the next thing they knew, they were already the founders of a revolutionary food item that’s out to change the ways of the snacking industry.

Keith and Patrick discovered a way to make tasty chips sans the baking – that takes all the flavors away – and frying – which give chips a bad name. They figured out something that will create chips that are packed with all of those delightful flavors yet stripped off of those bad stuff people can do fine without. They called it popping. The two snackers spent almost a year, popping, snacking and popping some more, until they came up with a bag of Popchips, an all-natural, delicious line of snack items, the likes of which no store aisle has ever seen or a taste bud has ever tasted before.

Popchips is made from the finest ingredients and a little bit of pressure and heat. Once it’s popped, it becomes a chip! All the rest of the Popchips people had to do is add some tasty blend of seasonings that will appeal to every taste bud. No fake flavors. No fake coloring. No preservatives. Popchips is all about making people feel good about snacking again and Keith and Patrick are doing their best to share this feeling to the rest of the world.
